Public Safety Officer – Evergreen Campus Patrol

About the role

The Public Safety Officer (Evergreen) supports a safe and secure environment at Prairie View A&M University, allowing faculty to teach and students to learn without distraction. This uniformed position provides visible campus presence, general assistance, and emergency response.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol campus grounds and buildings on foot or golf cart, reporting safety hazards and security deficiencies.
• Monitor hallways and classrooms to maintain a comfortable academic atmosphere.
• Write reports on suspicious activities and notify police officers when needed.
• Perform vehicle services such as jump‑starts and door unlocks, and arrange wreckers.
• Enforce non‑law‑enforcement regulations (parking, smoking, etc.).
• Respond to medical, fire, or low‑risk calls, guide EMS/Fire personnel, and check fire extinguishers.
• Provide customer service: lock/unlock doors, answer questions, direct traffic, and assist visitors.
• Perform other duties as assigned by PVAMU Police.

Required profile

• Ability to maintain a professional, uniformed presence on campus.
• Willingness to assist police officers and emergency responders.
• Strong observational skills and ability to report incidents accurately.
• Capability to perform basic vehicle assistance and lock control.
