Movement Control Officer

About the role

The Movement Control Officer is positioned within the Movement Control Section of the Logistics Division at the United Nations Headquarters. This role supports the planning and execution of personnel and equipment movements for UN peacekeeping missions, ensuring cost‑effective and operationally efficient transportation.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze, plan, implement and manage transportation of contingent personnel, rotations, repatriations and UN‑owned equipment to and from peacekeeping missions.
• Coordinate with the Department of Operational Support, Department of Peace Operations, Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and other logistics partners to develop optimal movement plans.
• Liaise with mission officials, Permanent Missions, and national governments to finalize transportation arrangements and resolve conflicts.
• Ensure movement plans comply with UN guidelines for troop‑contributing countries and meet field mission operational needs.
• Participate in troop‑contributor and mission planning meetings, briefing stakeholders on movement parameters and current status.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in logistics or transportation planning within an international or multilateral environment.
• Strong ability to negotiate and coordinate with multiple governmental and UN entities.
• Understanding of UN guidelines for troop contributions and peacekeeping operations.
• Excellent analytical skills to assess cost‑effectiveness and operational efficiency.
