Financial Controller – Law Firm (Los Angeles)

About the role

The firm is a well‑established, mid‑size California law practice seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead its finance function. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow management, and compliance for a dynamic legal environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all financial aspects of the firm, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash‑flow projections.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements such as balance sheets, P&L, and cash‑flow reports.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and trust‑accounting requirements.
• Streamline accounting processes, including billing, collections, and expense reimbursements through SOPs.
• Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, assess performance, and recommend improvements.
• Co‑manage and supervise the accounting team alongside the Director of Finance.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of experience in a Controller or Assistant Controller role within a law firm.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation preferred.
• Strong knowledge of law‑firm partnership structures, tax laws, and financial compliance.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Elite 3E legal accounting software.
• Advanced Excel skills.
