About the role
An experienced Engineering Director is required to lead a multidisciplinary engineering function within a growing Defence & Aerospace organisation. The role provides strategic leadership across engineering delivery, systems development, programme execution, and technical governance for safety‑critical products.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage multidisciplinary teams covering Systems, Software, Hardware, Mechanical Engineering, Safety, and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS).
- Define and execute an engineering strategy aligned with business objectives and growth plans.
- Provide technical leadership throughout the full system lifecycle from concept to in‑service support.
- Ensure programmes are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
- Establish robust engineering governance, processes and best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement to enhance efficiency, capability and delivery performance.
- Support business development activities including customer engagement, bid reviews and technical proposals.
- Build and maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, industry partners and government stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with defence, aerospace, quality, safety and security standards.
- Lead resource planning, workforce development, succession planning and talent acquisition.
Required profile
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant leadership experience in Defence, Aerospace, Naval, Space or Government sectors.
- Proven track record leading large multidisciplinary teams delivering complex systems and programmes.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle management.
- Experience managing engineering budgets, resources and programme delivery.
- Eligibility to obtain or hold Security Clearance (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
- Desirable: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and experience with DOD, NATO, government agencies or prime defence contractors.
