Data Center Technician, Dayshift

About the role

Google's Hardware Operations team is seeking a Dayshift Data Center Technician to install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain server hardware and associated software in a high‑performance data center environment. You will work on cutting‑edge infrastructure, handling physical rack moves and ensuring the reliability of Google's search and AI services.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, and test servers, racks, and related components.
• Troubleshoot and repair hardware at the component level.
• Maintain Linux‑based server software and networking equipment such as routers, switches, hubs, and bridges.
• Participate in or lead small project teams for larger installations and develop contingency plans.
• Perform manual movement and installation of racks, often requiring physical exertion.

Required profile

• Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, server hardware, or networking protocols.
• Ability to lift/move 50 lb equipment and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, and holidays.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience and Google IT Support Professional Certificate.
• Preferred: 2 + years of experience in a data‑center or NOC environment.
