Controller – High‑Growth SaaS (Path to CFO)

About the role
We are seeking a hands‑on, strategic Controller to lead and scale the accounting function of a fast‑growing, PE‑backed cybersecurity and risk‑intelligence SaaS company in Denver. Reporting to executive leadership, you will act as a player‑coach, combining day‑to‑day execution with team development and strategic finance initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Own all technical accounting under U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606 SaaS revenue recognition.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual close, driving automation and efficiency.
- Maintain audit readiness and serve as primary liaison with external auditors and the Audit Committee.
- Design and enhance internal controls with future SOX readiness in mind.
- Oversee tax strategy and compliance across partnership, sales‑use, indirect and related taxes.
- Build a scalable reporting framework in partnership with FP&A.
- Establish and improve order‑to‑cash, procure‑to‑pay and record‑to‑report processes.
- Hire, develop and scale the accounting team.
- Partner cross‑functionally with Finance, Revenue Operations, Legal, HR and IT.
- Provide insights and reporting to executive leadership and investors.
Required profile
- Active CPA.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting (Big 4 or large regional firm).
- 5+ years of leadership experience building and managing accounting teams.
- Experience in SaaS, technology or other recurring‑revenue environments.
- Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, ASC 606 and audit processes.
- Experience in private‑equity‑backed or high‑growth companies is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
