Construction Quality Engineer – Subway Project

About the role

The Construction Quality Engineer will support the $2 billion design‑build contract for Phase 2 of the MTA’s Second Avenue Subway expansion. Working on two new tunnels and stations in East Harlem, the role ensures that all construction activities meet contractual, technical, quality and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement quality assurance plans, method statements, and inspection‑and‑test plans (ITPs) in line with project specifications.
• Evaluate and document the quality of tunnel construction performed by contractors, suppliers and subcontractors, verifying compliance with RFC and As‑Built drawings.
• Inspect and test materials before use, ensuring they meet required specifications.
• Maintain comprehensive QA/QC documentation, including certificates, calibration records, test results and non‑compliance reports.
• Verify that equipment is fit for purpose, properly calibrated and maintained.
• Identify, report and control non‑conforming work or products until corrective actions are completed.
• Coordinate quality activities with the Quality team and other stakeholders as defined in the ITPs.

Required profile

• Must operate independently from production and supervision teams to maintain objectivity.
• Must ensure compliance with the Construction Quality Management Plan (CQMP), ITPs, RFC drawings and applicable standards.
