Assistant Professor of Mathematics (Tenure‑Track)

About the role

Colby College invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Mathematics beginning July 1, 2026. The position is designed for an early‑career scholar with an active research agenda and a passion for undergraduate teaching in a liberal‑arts environment.

Key responsibilities

• Teach 4–5 undergraduate courses per year on an alternating schedule (5 courses one year, 4 the next), with a reduced load (2‑2) in the first year.
• Develop and supervise undergraduate research projects, especially those that align with the department’s computational and engineering initiatives.
• Maintain an active research program, contributing to the department’s scholarly profile.
• Participate in departmental service, curriculum development, and college‑wide committees.
• Take a research sabbatical leave prior to tenure review (full‑year at 80% salary or one semester at full salary).

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics.
• At least one year of full‑time teaching or a research‑oriented post‑doctoral position with a significant teaching component.
• Demonstrated record of teaching excellence and a commitment to mentoring undergraduates.
• Familiarity with the U.S. undergraduate mathematics education system.
• Evidence of a strong research trajectory.
