Tax Analyst II – Tax Controversy

About the role

Amazon is seeking a Tax Analyst II to join its Tax Controversy Team, focusing on U.S. federal tax controversy matters, including domestic, international, and transfer‑pricing issues. The role involves handling IRS and other tax authority audits, collaborating with cross‑functional tax teams, and traveling domestically and internationally as needed.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for U.S. federal audits and support global transfer‑pricing and APA controversies.
• Prepare, plan, and coordinate responses to information requests and due‑diligence inquiries from tax authorities.
• Develop and deliver presentations on tax issues to tax authorities.
• Analyze complex data using technology tools and AI, and stay current with emerging technologies.
• Coordinate communications with Amazon Tax Reporting, Transfer Pricing, local country tax teams, and internal tax subject‑matter experts.
• Lead interviews with business‑team members for diligence and functional discussions with tax authorities.
• Research and document domestic and international tax controversy issues.
• Manage relationships with external advisors on tax controversy matters.
• Foster strong working relationships with Legal, Accounting, HR, and other cross‑functional teams.
• Implement process improvements to enhance the Tax Controversy Team’s effectiveness.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in tax, finance, or a related analytical field.
• Experience supporting audit defense for tax authorities.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Familiarity with at least one data‑focused technology tool (e.g., Python, SQL, Alteryx, Amazon QuickSight).
• Experience in a large public accounting firm or multinational corporate tax department is preferred.
