Security Specialist (Special Access Program)

About the role

The United States Space Command is seeking a Security Specialist to serve as the Special Access Program (SAP) security officer for the J39 Special Programs Division. This senior‑level position supports the protection of classified and sensitive information across the command headquarters and its subordinate components.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and enforce policies for classifying, protecting, and de‑classifying classified systems and national‑defense information.
• Act as the security authority for SAP protection requirements, advising technical personnel on classification needs.
• Administer the Physical Security Program, defining standards for SAP facilities and conducting initial and annual inspections.
• Participate in design and construction meetings to ensure security requirements are met and apply risk‑management techniques for compensatory measures.
• Oversee the Personnel Security Program, interpreting policy and evaluating clearance and access requirements for SAP locations.

Required profile

• Experience working at the Combatant Command (COCOM) headquarters level or equivalent government security environment.
• Strong knowledge of DoD SAP policies, classification guidance, and security clearance processes.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and provide clear security guidance.
