R&D Engineer – Robotics, Mechanical & Electrical

About the role

We are looking for a motivated R&D Engineer to join Miele Technology’s Emerging Technologies Lab in Peabody, MA. The role focuses on developing innovative robotics, mechanical and electrical solutions in collaboration with internal business units and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Scout emerging technologies and market trends in robotics, AI, sensors and related fields.
• Assess technical feasibility and maturity of new concepts.
• Lead and supervise proof-of-concept studies with startups and research partners.
• Produce drawings, 3D models and functional prototypes to illustrate future product ideas.
• Collaborate with the Smart Home Division and other units to translate concepts into product development.
• Manage multiple projects, coordinating with internal teams, contractors and vendors.
• Maintain strong connections with Boston’s startup ecosystem.
• Supervise co-op students involved in prototyping and testing activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 1-5 years of industry experience, preferably with robotics exposure.
• Hands-on experience in mechatronic product development, embedded systems and rapid prototyping.
• Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies across diverse domains.

Required skills

• Robotics frameworks and tools: ROS 1/ROS 2, Linux, MoveIt, Gazebo, RViz, URDF, TF.
• Programming and data analysis: Python, MATLAB, C, C++.
• CAD and design: SolidWorks.
• Prototyping techniques: 3D printing, machining, soldering, laser cutting.
• Simulation, motion planning, robot kinematics, calibration and sensor integration.
