About the role
The Quality Engineer will develop, document, and maintain quality plans that ensure customer, regulatory, and industry requirements are met throughout the manufacturing process. This technical role bridges customer specifications, engineering design, and production, translating requirements into practical inspection and control strategies for both shop‑floor and laboratory environments.
Key responsibilities
- Lead quality planning during New Product Introduction (NPI), converting engineering drawings and specifications into inspection and control plans.
- Conduct risk‑based analyses such as PFMEA and develop control plans to identify critical characteristics and inspection points.
- Define measurement strategies aligned with part features, tolerances, and functional requirements, and perform hands‑on measurements to validate conformance.
- Select and document optimal inspection methods, evaluating solutions for shop‑floor usability and laboratory capabilities (e.g., CMM).
- Support design and development of custom gauges and fixtures, and define requirements for gauge R&R and capability studies.
- Develop and maintain First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation in accordance with AS9102 and prepare customer‑required quality documentation such as PPAP and PSW.
- Interpret and apply quality standards (AS9100) and ensure ongoing compliance as specifications evolve.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, train production personnel on inspection procedures, and analyze SPC and inspection data to monitor process capability.
- Participate in root‑cause analysis, corrective‑action activities, and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
Required profile
- Strong technical judgment in selecting inspection methods for both shop‑floor and laboratory environments.
- Ability to collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams and to train personnel on inspection techniques.
- Experience conducting risk‑based analyses such as PFMEA and developing control plans.
Required skills
- Inspection method selection and documentation.
- Metrology tools including CMM and custom gauges.
- First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation (AS9102).
- PPAP and PSW preparation.
- Quality standards knowledge (AS9100).
- Statistical Process Control (SPC) and capability studies (Cp/Cpk).
