Principal Database Engineer

About the role

Frontline Data Solutions is seeking a Principal Database Engineer to lead the design, optimization, and maintenance of the databases that power its environmental, health, and safety software platform. This fully remote position offers the chance to work with leading chemical, oil & gas, and manufacturing customers across the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Design and evolve database schemas to support new product features and long‑term performance.
• Optimize queries, indexing, and configurations while collaborating with engineering teams.
• Implement and maintain backup, disaster‑recovery, replication, and high‑availability processes.
• Monitor database health, troubleshoot incidents, and manage upgrades, patches, and migrations.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Technical Services to align data solutions with platform and customer needs.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience with SQL Server or comparable RDBMS.
• Deep expertise in SQL query tuning, indexing strategies, and execution‑plan analysis.
• Strong background in performance engineering and high‑availability architectures such as replication, read replicas, and Availability Groups.
• Proven ability to modernize legacy databases and improve system reliability.
• Excellent communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
