Pharmacy Specialist – Emergency Medicine

About the role

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking a Pharmacy Specialist to join its Emergency Medicine team. The specialist will support medication management and safety within the fast‑paced emergency department, ensuring optimal patient care and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee pharmacy operations in the Emergency Department, including prescription verification and dispensing.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to provide accurate medication therapy recommendations.
• Maintain inventory levels, manage controlled substances, and ensure proper storage conditions.
• Conduct medication safety checks, adverse drug reaction monitoring, and documentation.
• Provide patient counseling and education on medication use when appropriate.
• Support emergency pharmacy staff with training, workflow optimization, and emergency preparedness.

Required profile

• Current Pharm.D. degree and active pharmacy license in the United States.
• Experience in emergency, acute care, or hospital pharmacy settings.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a high‑stress environment.
• Legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.
