Pharmacist – Hospital Pharmacy

About the role

The hospital pharmacist will deliver comprehensive pharmaceutical care within East Jefferson General Hospital, ensuring safe medication distribution, patient counseling, and education. Working on a day shift, the role supports clinicians and patients across a wide range of therapeutic areas.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret medication orders and accurately enter them into the computerized patient medication profile.
• Review drug therapies for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.
• Contact physicians to clarify orders and document interventions.
• Provide clinical consultation and drug information to practitioners, nursing staff, patients, and families.
• Maintain the hospital formulary, apply therapeutic interchange protocols, and suggest cost‑effective alternatives.
• Supervise pharmacy support personnel and verify technician dispensing and non‑sterile compounding.
• Oversee pharmacy operations in the supervisor’s absence, ensuring timely service delivery.
• Dispense medications and prepare sterile admixtures, including chemotherapy and Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN).
• Maintain controlled‑substance records in compliance with Louisiana and Federal pharmacy laws and DEA regulations.

Required profile

• Active license as a Pharmacist through the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
• Ability to assess and interpret age‑specific medication data.
• Strong knowledge of Louisiana and Federal pharmacy regulations and DEA requirements.
• Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• Computerized medication order entry.
• Sterile compounding, including chemotherapy preparation.
• Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) preparation.
• Controlled‑substance record‑keeping.
