About the role
The Mail Clerk provides courteous front‑desk service and ensures reliable mail and package handling across Georgetown University campuses. This full‑time position operates mail‑service vehicles, processes incoming and outgoing mail, and supports the daily logistics of campus departments and student locker banks.
Key responsibilities
- Greet customers and visitors in a courteous manner.
- Operate mail‑service vehicles, including a large box truck, to pick up mail from USPS as needed.
- Receive, scan, sort, and deliver incoming mail and packages from USPS and third‑party carriers while maintaining chain of custody.
- Utilize package‑tracking software and locker‑system technology to facilitate sorting and delivery.
- Deliver mail and packages to university departments and student locker banks according to assigned routes.
- Maintain cleanliness of all mail‑service vehicles.
- Perform additional mail‑related duties to support the department’s mission.
Required profile
- High‑school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience in a medium to large mailroom, preferably in a university setting.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 70 lb; willingness to work overtime when required.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, push, bend, and reach for extended periods.
- Professional interaction skills with faculty, staff, students, and external contractors.
