Lab Technician

About the role

The Neuroscience department at Georgetown University School of Medicine seeks a Lab Technician to support an externally funded research program. The role involves managing mouse colonies, performing a range of neuroscience techniques, and assisting with lab setup and daily operations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage breeding, genotyping, and overall care of transgenic mouse colonies.
• Perform brain slicing, histology, stereotaxic surgeries, in situ hybridization, fiber photometry, and optogenetic procedures.
• Conduct rodent behavior assays as needed.
• Assist in ordering, inventory, and maintenance of lab equipment and supplies.
• Develop and implement standard protocols for histological staining, surgeries, and behavioral tests.
• Collaborate with undergraduate, graduate, and post‑doctoral researchers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience with mouse colony management and basic to intermediate neuroscience laboratory techniques.
• Ability to work on‑campus in an academic research environment.
