Histotechnician - Gross Room

About the role

The Histotechnician – Gross Room supports the pathology laboratory by preparing surgical and biopsy specimens for microscopic examination. Working within the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, you will ensure accurate accessioning, gross dissection, and documentation of specimens to facilitate high‑quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, label, and accession all incoming surgical and biopsy specimens.
• Perform gross dissection and tissue sampling according to pathologist instructions.
• Document specimen details, measurements, and findings in the laboratory information system.
• Maintain and calibrate gross room equipment and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
• Assist in the preparation of tissue blocks and slides for downstream histology processing.
• Collaborate with pathologists, histotechnologists, and other laboratory staff to ensure timely workflow.

Required profile

• Associate degree or higher in Histotechnology, Biological Sciences, or related field.
• Certification (e.g., ASCP) or eligibility preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced laboratory environment and follow detailed protocols.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
