General Accountant – City Finance Department

About the role

The City Finance Department is seeking a General Accountant to support a wide range of accounting activities. This full‑time position involves preparing journal entries, reconciling funds, and providing technical assistance on the city’s financial software.

Key responsibilities

• Produce journal entries and close monthly/annual accounting periods.
• Research and prepare general ledger data for senior finance leadership.
• Compile, analyze, and verify financial data for accuracy and completeness.
• Respond to accounting inquiries from city departments and external auditors.
• Prepare schedules and documentation for the annual financial statement audit and ACFR.
• Reconcile cash accounts, payroll accounts, and development corporation accounts.
• Manage grant documentation, reimbursements, and related reporting.
• Maintain financial records, including monthly reports, capital assets, and fire retirement files.
• File sales‑tax reports with federal and state agencies.
• Provide technical support and training on the city’s financial software system.
• Perform payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable duties as needed.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to perform highly skilled accounting functions.
• Experience reconciling accounts and analyzing financial data.
• Proficiency in preparing and maintaining diverse financial records and reports.
• Capability to deliver technical support and training for financial software.
