Financial Accountant II

About the role

The University’s Accounting Office is seeking a Financial Accountant II to support the management of capital assets, inventory, and grant funding. This full‑time position will ensure accurate financial recording and compliance with state policies while providing essential reports for university operations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile inventory of capital assets, assign inventory numbers and property labels, and manage surplus equipment transfers.
• Process accounting entries in FAMIS, USAS, and other required systems, including journal entries, vouchers, cash receipts, and endowment transactions.
• Record construction‑in‑progress projects and prepare annual inventory reconciliations for financial reporting.
• Enter and monitor grant draws, prepare grant reports, and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
• Assist the Assistant Controller and Controller with data entry, analysis, and preparation of fiscal information.
• Act as State Agency Property Manager and liaison with the State Comptroller’s Office, Texas Building and Procurement Commission, and other agencies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Relevant accounting experience, preferably in higher‑education or government environments.
• Knowledge of state inventory control policies and grant administration.
• Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Financial Accounting Management Information System (FAMIS).
• Experience using Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
• Familiarity with Capital Asset Note Submission System (CANSS).
• Inventory control and property management procedures.
• Grant accounting and reporting.
