Extended Case Management Intern (Summer 2026)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a motivated intern to join its Extended Case Management (ECM) team in Silver Spring for the Summer 2026 term. You will support newly arrived refugees, asylees, and humanitarian immigrants as they navigate essential services and settle into the DC Metro area.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct check‑in calls and messages to assess unresolved service needs and provide guidance under supervision.
• Submit and follow up on external referrals such as English classes, health screenings, and housing assistance.
• Assist clients with scheduling appointments and navigating public benefit offices, medical facilities, and other service providers.
• Help clients complete applications for Medicaid, childcare vouchers, social security cards, and other public benefits.
• Research and compile community resources to address service gaps.
• Provide public‑transportation orientations in the field when required.
• Enter service data electronically, maintain client documentation, and track progress.
• Perform additional tasks assigned by the ECM team.

Required profile

• Current undergraduate or graduate student, or less than 12 months out of school.
• Available to work a minimum of 24 hours per week for at least three months, including three full working days each week.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with limited‑English‑proficiency clients.
