Executive Director, Credit Risk – Project Finance (2nd Line)

About the role

Santander is seeking a senior leader to head Credit Risk for Project Finance within its U.S. Corporate Investment Banking Structured Finance team. The role sits in the 2nd Line of Defense and is responsible for shaping the risk agenda for high‑profile energy transition, infrastructure and digital asset transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent credit judgment and approval for all U.S. Project Finance and Renewable Energy Tax Equity transactions, including originations, amendments, renewals and restructurings.
• Influence portfolio strategy, risk appetite and underwriting standards across the platform.
• Lead and develop a high‑performing team of credit risk professionals.
• Strengthen the Project Finance risk platform, enhance underwriting standards and scale capabilities in line with business growth.
• Report directly to the Head of Structured Finance Credit Risk and interact with senior risk committees and executive leadership.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in credit risk for Project Finance, Renewable Energy, LNG, data centers or related infrastructure sectors.
• Proven track record of independent decision‑making on complex, high‑value transactions.
• Strong leadership and team‑building capabilities.
• Ability to assess financial models, contractual frameworks and key risk mitigants.
