Driver Engineer

About the role

The City of Haines City is seeking a Driver Engineer to operate, maintain, and ensure the readiness of fire apparatus and equipment. This position combines vehicle operation with full firefighter and EMT/Paramedic responsibilities, supporting emergency response and public safety.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and drive fire apparatus safely in emergency and non‑emergency situations.
• Conduct daily and periodic inspections of vehicles, tools, and equipment, reporting any deficiencies.
• Perform all duties of a Firefighter and EMT/Paramedic, including firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical care.
• Assist with maintenance, inventory, and replacement of fire equipment and personal protective equipment.
• Participate in fire prevention, public education, pre‑incident planning, and regular training drills.
• Complete required reports, maintenance logs, and checklists accurately and promptly.
• Operate fire pumps, aerial devices, generators, hydraulic tools, and other rescue equipment.
• Assume temporary incident command when required, following department policy.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to perform all firefighter, EMT, and paramedic duties.
• Willingness to work in hazardous environments with exposure to fire, smoke, hazardous materials, and extreme weather.
• Commitment to ongoing training and certification.
