About the role
The District of Columbia Office of the Inspector General’s Investigations Unit is seeking a Criminal Investigator to lead thorough investigations of alleged violations of federal and District laws. The role involves gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing case files for potential criminal, civil, or administrative actions.
Key responsibilities
- Receive and assess complaints or allegations in accordance with SOPs.
- Develop investigative plans, schedules, and violation matrices.
- Collect and preserve evidence, maintaining chain of custody.
- Conduct interviews, searches, surveillance, and execute subpoenas or warrants.
- Prepare detailed case files and reports in the electronic case management system.
- Assist DOJ, U.S. Attorney’s Office, and DC Attorney General in case preparation and testify in court as required.
- Perform administrative investigations related to payroll, travel, personnel management, and resource misuse.
Required profile
- Experience conducting criminal and administrative investigations.
- Strong knowledge of federal, District, and local statutes and regulations.
- Ability to analyze complaints for credibility and legal relevance.
- Excellent written and oral communication for report drafting and testimony.
- Capacity to work independently while keeping supervisors informed of investigative progress.
Required skills
- Proficiency with an electronic case management system.
