About the role
We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations for a large North American insurance portfolio based in Hudson County, New Jersey. The role will oversee multiple accounting functions across property & casualty, specialty risk, title and related entities, ensuring high‑quality financial reporting and strong operational discipline.
Key responsibilities
- Direct month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end close activities, ensuring results are accurate, timely and compliant with U.S. GAAP, statutory reporting and IFRS standards.
- Lead several accounting teams, handling staffing, performance management, workload planning and employee development.
- Review financial data, trends and performance indicators to provide insights, identify issues and recommend actions.
- Strengthen internal controls by designing, executing and evaluating key controls and supporting assessments.
- Partner with finance, accounting and operational leaders across North American business units to promote clear communication and issue resolution.
- Identify workflow improvement opportunities, optimize resource allocation and increase efficiency through process refinement and automation.
- Contribute to finance transformation initiatives, implementing tools, reporting enhancements and operational improvements.
- Lead special projects requiring advanced accounting judgment and cross‑functional coordination.
- Prepare ad‑hoc reporting and analyses for senior leadership.
- Maintain relationships with internal and external auditors and support audit activities.
Required profile
- CPA designation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or higher‑level accounting qualification.
- 15+ years of accounting experience within the insurance industry, with significant controllership and financial close exposure.
- Proven success leading teams and managing complex accounting operations in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, U.S. statutory accounting and IFRS 17 reporting requirements.
- Advanced ability to evaluate accounting processes and implement improvements.
Required skills
- Advanced Excel proficiency.
- Experience with ERP systems.
- Familiarity with Oracle and Hyperion financial reporting platforms.
