Backend Software Engineer – Rider Experience

About the role

Lyft Urban Solutions is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join the Rider Experience team. You will build and maintain the backend services that power membership programs, rider features, and real‑time experiences for bike‑share and scooter‑share platforms used by millions worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Take independent ownership of high‑impact features and small projects from design through launch and iteration.
• Develop, deploy, operate, and maintain components within the rider‑experience systems.
• Write reliable, performant, maintainable, and scalable code while reducing technical debt.
• Ensure comprehensive testing, including unit and end‑to‑end tests, and monitor system impact.
• Produce technical specifications, runbooks, and documentation covering security and privacy.
• Participate in on‑call rotation, monitor production stability, and respond to incidents.
• Collaborate closely with product, data science, analytics, and operations teams to move quickly without breaking things.
• Communicate trade‑offs clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required profile

• Strong problem‑solving mindset with the ability to ship code quickly and continuously.
• Comfortable taking end‑to‑end ownership of features and services.
• Excellent communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
• Willingness to participate in on‑call duties and improve reliability practices.

Required skills

• Backend development experience.
